Participants traced how an artistic image is created - from the first pastel sketch to a complex woven piece - and examined the artist's methods of working with texture, colour and yarn.

The seminar presented the pastel catalogue and the new bilas.art page. Club leaders discussed how to adapt elements of this technique for their classes - to develop children's sense of form and colour and their love of Ukrainian traditions.

Pastel - the most fragile and least known part of Bilas's legacy

People's Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo Bilas (1924–2016) is known worldwide above all as a master of textiles, carpets and tapestries. His pastel graphics and unique sketches are a delicate side of his work that remains little known to the wider public.

The project "Ethnocode of Mykhailo Bilas: Pastel", supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, is a set of cultural, digital, educational and exhibition activities designed to preserve the artist's graphic legacy and open it to a wide audience.

We combined the physical preservation of the originals with open digital access, scholarly research and work with a new generation of artists.
